5.3. Maintenance of axle bearings
After first 500 km of driving you must check the play of axle hub bearings. To check the
play of hub bearings raise the axle from the ground by means of proper jack and
release the brake. Put one or two iron bars between the tyre and the ground and check
the movement. If wheel shows the excessive play it is necessary to readjust the
bearings. In order to regulate the hub bearings you must perform the following actions:
Connect the trailer to the tractor.
Actuate parking brake of the tractor.
Raise the wheels of trailer by proper jack.
Remove the hub cap.
Remove the split pin of castle nut.
Tighten the castle nut until the hub hardly turns.
Unscrew the castle nut by 1/3 or revolution until the nearest groove for the split
pin.
Secure the castle nut with split pin.
Mount the hub cap.
After bearing regulation the wheel should rotate smoothly without any jams. During
further use perform regular checks of hub bearings after each 2000 km of driving. If you
are not able to achieve smooth rotation of wheels contact yours nearest authorized
STRONGA service centre
.
5.4. Maintenance of brakes
If the operator encounters inefficient braking of the trailer, it is necessary to service the
brakes of axles by adjusting the slack adjuster or replacing the worn out parts. Initial
brake adjustment for lining wear is made by adjusting screw which is directly on each
slack adjuster. The screw should then be turned clockwise until the brake is just applied.
The point at which the brake is just applied can be felt by jacking up the wheel and
rotating it by hand. When the full extent of the brake adjustment screw is used up, the
