Final Assembly Continued
173. The Rudder will be too thick to mount the retaining plate on the prongs of the control horn.
Instead, use a warm soldering iron per the instructions on the Detail Sheet, and melt the
tips of the prongs into “rivets”. Further secure the control horn by wicking thin and medium
CA glues around the base of the horn and the”rivets”.
174. In the same manner as the previous step, mount the elevator horn to the LOWER LEFT
side of the elevator (assuming that the tape hinge is on top of the elevator). This time,
press a retaining plate firmly onto the prongs extending from the top surface of the elevator.
Use a warm soldering iron as before, and melt the tips of the prongs to form “rivets”.
Further secure the control horn by wicking thin CA around the base of the horn and the
retaining plate.
175. Fit the supplied 3/4 in. tailwheel to the tail gear wire on the rudder and retain it with the
press-on black nylon “dished” washer supplied in your kit.
176. Fit the vertical and horizontal stabilizers to the model. The tabs on the bottom of the vertical
stabilizer will fit through part F19 and into the horizontal stabilizer below. Ensure that the
stabilizing surfaces are perpendicular to each other and the fuselage, then bond with
medium CA.
177. Connect the Elevator and Rudder pushrods to the control horns with the supplied nylon
Micro E/Z Links [DUB26310].
Note: See the Detail Sheet 1 of 2 for instruction on making
silicone safety rings for the E/Z Links to prevent an in-flight failure of the E/Z link
. Slacken
the screws within the E/Z Connectors at the servos, center the Rudder and Elevator, then
tighten the screws firmly.
178. Tape the ailerons within their recesses at
right
and
left
of wing. Check to make sure you
have the
right
and
left
ailerons in their correct locations - part A6 containing the slot for the
control horn must be located at the inboard end of each aileron. Ensure there is about a
1/64 in. gap all around the aileron. If there is any binding between the aileron and the wing,
remove the aileron, remove the covering in the offending location, and sand down the
surface until the aileron fits in it’s recess without binding. Recover the sanded area and
replace the aileron. Follow the same taping procedure used on the rudder and elevator to
attach the ailerons to the wings.
179. Slit the covering over the slot for the control horn in the ailerons, and mount the ply control
horns “A” to each aileron, with the horn pointing toward the front of the wing. Secure by
wicking thin CA around the base of the horn.
180. Open the covering over the servo pockets with a sharp hobby knife or warm soldering iron.
