Final Assembly Continued
165. Mount a length of self adhesive Hook and Loop Tape [DUB348] (not supplied) - the “hook”
side - down the center of the plywood battery/servo tray, extending from just in front of the
servos to the other end of the tray. Further secure the velcro by wicking thin CA around the
edges. Mount the receiver by sticking a patch of Velcro - the “loop” side - on the receiver.
Mount the receiver just in front of the servos, far enough away that the pushrods won’t
contact it. Connect the elevator and rudder servo to the receiver. Connect the ESC to the
“throttle” channel of the receiver.
166. Compare the pre-bent wire landing gear with the diagram on “Detail Sheet 2 of 2”, and
make any necessary adjustments using a heavy set of pliers. Fit the supplied 3 in. lite foam
wheels [DAV5530] to the wire landing gear and retain using two each 1/8 in. wheel collars
[DUB139] provided with your kit.
167. Mount the landing gear to the slot in the front landing gear block. Retain the gear by
wrapping a #32 rubber band three or four times around the landing gear and the dowel
extending from the sides of the fuselage.
168. Remove the protective paper from the acetate wind screen. Now, fold the windscreen along
the perforations as illustrated.
169. Fit the windscreen to the fuselage, sliding the hole in the top over the front wing mount
dowel. Position the acetate so that there is an equal “margin” all around the window
openings in the fuselage sides. When you are satisfied with the positioning of the
windscreen, hold it in place with several small pieces of masking tape. secure the
windscreen with canopy glue, or by CAREFULLY wicking small drops of medium CA
between the patches of masking tape. When the glue has cured, remove the masking tape.
170. Follow the Tape Hinge Diagram on the Detail Sheets to attach the Rudder and Elevator to
the Vertical and Horizontal Stabilizers respecively.
Builders Tip! Hold the surfaces to be hinged down on the table, bevel side down, with
masking tape assuring about a 1/64 in. gap along the hinge line, then with the surfaces
prevented from moving by the masking tape, apply an overly long piece of hinge tape
material down the center of the hinge line. Trim hinge tape to final length. Remove
masking tape from parts, invert assembly and fold back along the hinge line until the
beveled surface of the movable surface is flat with the squared end of the stabilizer. Once
again use masking tape to hold parts in this position while you apply hinge tape down the
center of the hinge line. Trim hinge tape to final length.
171. Remove the covering over both sides of the mounting holes in the horizontal stabilizer.
172. With a warm soldering iron, open the holes over the Rudder for mounting the Rudder
Control Horn. Mount the Rudder Control Horn to the
RIGHT
side of the Rudder.
