Tail Surfaces Continued
93.
Make the final 90 degree bend “E” to create the axle of the wheel bracket. Re-check the
bracket over the diagram and make any adjustments to the bends that may be necessary.
Trim the ends to the length indicated on the “Tail Gear Diagram”.
94.
Lay the tail wheel bracket within the groove carved out of the rudder in “Step 88”, ensuring
that it nests fully within the groove carved out in “Step 88”. Check to ensure that R8 used in
the next step will seat flush on top of Rudder without the gear wire causing it to bulge up.
Once satisfied with the fit of the gear wire within Rudder, bond wire to retain with a
generous application of medium CA.
95.
Position ply doubler R8 over the wire on the
left
side of the rudder. Temporarily fit a control
horn (provided) to ensure that the hole are lined up correctly.
96.
Remove the control horn retaining the position of part R8. Tack one end of part R8 to
rudder then lift R8 slightly and apply a generous amount of medium CA glue between R8
and rudder. Press part R8 into position, wipe away any excess glue that oozes out and
retain pressure on parts until the glue has set.
97.
Turn the rudder over and repeat the process given above in steps 95 and 96 to install the
second ply doubler R9 on the
right
side of the rudder.
98.
Lay the rudder
right
side down on the table, with the leading edge lined up with the edge of
the table. Use a sanding block to bevel the leading edge of the rudder at a 45 degree
angle. Follow the sanding guide on “Detail Sheet 1 of 2” to lightly sand the rest of the
rudder, leaving the trailing edge square.
99.
Build the Horizontal Stabilizer from parts H1, H2, H3, H4, H5 (2), H6 (2), H7 (7), H8 (2), and
H9 (2). Dry fit the parts together over the plan provided on “Detail Sheet 2 of 2”. Bond the
parts by wicking thin CA along the joints. Follow the sanding instructions given on the
Detail Sheet to lightly sand the Horizontal Stabilizer, rounding the leading edge and leaving
the trailing edge square.
100. Follow the procedure in “Step 99” as above, using two each of the parts E1, E2, E3, E4, E5,
and E6 to build both a
right
and
left
Elevator halve over the plan provided on “Detail Sheet 2
of 2”.
