Wing Continued
133. Turn the wing over and fit the servo lead exit W35 spanning center section ribs W3 within
the notches provided in ribs. Bond with CA to retain.
134. Fit the 1/16 in. ply servo pockets W36 to both
right
and
left
wing panels within the recesses
in the W1 main spar and rib W5 as illustrated. Bond with thin CA.
135. Fit and bond the lower rear spar brace W37 to the bottom of the rear spar W2 and spanning
ribs W5, W6, and W7.
Note: The arrow at one end of W37 points toward the center of the
wing, and must be connected to rib W5.
136. Locate the strips of wood marked “Wing Tip Reinforcements” (Sheet 19/24). you will only
need two, but there are a couple of extra in case of breakage. Moisten a strip with glass
cleaner and allow it to soak in for a few minutes until the wood is pliable. Tape the strip
along the flatter area on the
left
wing tip as illustrated and allow to dry thoroughly. When
dry, tack glue the reinforcement between the strips of tape, then remove the tape and final
bond with thin CA. Repeat process for the
right
wing tip.
137. Trim the ends of the reinforcements, and sand to flow smoothly into the curve of the wing
tips as illustrated.
138. Finish the assembly of the wing by revisiting all installed parts, inspect your work for proper
fit and bond, re-visit any previously tack glued spots with medium CA glue to thoroughly
bond parts within assembly. Don’t neglect critical areas such as those between the ribs and
spar and spar to cap strips - ensure these have been properly bonded.
Now, lightly sand the wing in preparation for covering. Fair the rear spar reinforcement W24
to flow with the top profile of the rib, round the leading edge of the wing to follow naturally
into the curve of the airfoil and into the wing tips. Sand the trailing edge but leave it square.
“Detail Sheet 1 of 2” contains a rib profile that you can use for a suggestion of how to round/
shape the leading edge.
Ailerons
Aileron parts are designated with a “A” followed by a numeric, from A1 to A8. Take your time here, and
make sure you build a
LEFT
and a
RIGHT
aileron. Our assembly sequence shows the construction of
the
left
aileron.
139. Locate the part A1 that is marked “Left Aileron”. Lay it on the work surface with the etch
facing up and the arrow at one end pointing to the
right
(center of the wing). Fit rib A2 with
the arrow etched on this part facing the “Top” designation on A1. Additionally, A2 will nest
within the notch at the
right
end of A1, nearest the arrow designating wing center on part
A1. Tack glue with Medium CA.
140. Dry fit rib A3 to the center slot in A1 matching the general orientation of the previously
installed part A2.
