Fuselage Continued
57.
Press one of the 1/16 x 3/16 in. neo-magnets into the recess in F49b. Secure the magnet
with a few drops of medium CA applied to the back side of the magnet and F49b.
Builders Tip! Install magnets the easy way. Place magnet flat on your work table. Now
place catch part over magnet and while adequately supporting back side of catch assembly
press toward table. Magnet will pop into position seated flush within part.
58.
Fit and bond
rear
Hatch Catch F49 to the slots in former F34.
59.
Repeat the processes in “
□ □”
steps 56 and 57 to assemble and install the
forward
Hatch
Catch F50 from parts F50a and F50b. Install completed part F50 within the slots in former
F30, on the
aft
side of the former.
Note: Central tab on F50 will extend proud of the front
side of former F30. This is intentional, and will assist in the location of part F51 in the next
step.
60.
Fit part F51 to the
forward
face of former F30, over the tab of F50. The “stair-stepped” edge
of F51 should be oriented toward the
bottom
of the model. Wick thin CA around the edges
to bond F51 to the fuselage doublers and F30.
61.
Place the ply motor mount F52
front
side down on the building table. Using a small
hammer, seat the four 4-40 blind nuts into the
back
of the motor mount. Secure the nuts
with a few drops of medium CA around the flanges. Ensure that no glue enters the nuts,
fouling the threads.
62.
With the side etched “Front” facing
forward
, slide F52 down through the slots in the central
crutch immediately in front of doublers F42 and F43. F52 should rest in the recesses in the
front of these doublers, with it’s shoulders resting on the central crutch. DO NOT BOND.
63.
Fit doublers F53 and F54 to the
inside
of the fuselage sides immediately in
front
of motor
mount F52. The slot in the doublers should engage the small portion of the central crutch
extending beyond the motor mount. Remove the doublers and coat their mating surfaces
with thick CA or a slow setting aliphatic wood glue (carpenters glue). Re-install the
doublers, pressing them in place, and remove any glue that oozes out around the edges.
Build up a thin fillet of medium CA glue along the edges of the motor mount and doublers -
front and back.
