Appendix B Captioner/Student Edition Utilities

Do 

any

 of the following:

Install USB Drivers

 - if you have not already installed the Luminex Captioner/Student Edition

USB drivers, connect your Luminex Captioner/Student Edition to your computer via the USB
cable and then click the Install USB Drivers button to automatically install the Luminex
Captioner/Student Edition USB drivers on your computer.

·

Writer Utilities, Splash Loader and more

 option gives you access to the Splash Loader utility

that allows you to customize your Luminex Captioner/Student Edition start-up screen. Select the
SplashLoader.exe in the Utilities and Splash Photos folder. For more information, see the
SplashLoader.pdf located in the same folder. You can load your own photograph or use one of
the supplied photos located in the Splash Photos folder.

The TrueView

®

 utility is also available in the TrueView folder located in the Utilities and Splash

Photos folder. TrueView is a Luminex Captioner/Student Edition utility program that allows you to
analyze your steno strokes by viewing the TrueStroke data (Steno X-ray2) generated by the
Luminex Captioner/Student Edition. TrueStroke data is gathered while writing realtime
connected via the USB cable to Case CATalyst V13 or higher. TrueStroke Data contains
information about timing, the direction of travel and the velocity for each steno key in each steno
outline. This allows you to examine a steno outline to determine the cause for a stroke to register
as it did, providing instant feedback on your writing style. For example, you may want to examine
split, stacked, dragged or dropped strokes. The TrueView Utility permits viewing of the Luminex
Captioner/Student Edition TrueStroke data when you are not using Case CATalyst or are using
another CAT system. The TrueView.exe along with important TrueView instructions are located
in the TrueView folder.

GetSupportInfo

 is a utility that you may never use but may be necessary if the rare event that

your writing experiences a error. The GetSupportInfo utility transfers log error information from
the Luminex Captioner/Student Edition to your computer. Technical Support may request this
information for analysis. The GetSupportInfo program (GetSupportInfo.exe) along with the
instructions (GetSupportInfo.pdf) are located in the Writer Utilities, Splash Loader and more
option and then the Utilities and Splash Photos folder.
