Chapter 8 SCSI Commands
The autoloader returns error details to the host with the following flags.
Each flag is cleared to zero by the following events.
- Autoloader is restarted
- Autoloader is restored by a recovery operation
- Host reads an Alert Log Page
There are three types of TapeAlert flags. These are shown in service sequence
in Table 8.4.4.2. The three types are:
"I"
(Information). Information to the user
"W" (Warning). Advises the user to perform specific actions. The autoloader
performance does not decrease or is there danger of data loss.
"C" (Critical). State requiring an immediate response.

The autoloader has a hardware fault:
1.Turn the autoloader off and then on again.
2.Restart the operation.
3.If the problem persists, call the customer
service.
Check the autoloader users manual for device
specific instructions on turning the device power
on and tests.
The autoloader mechanism has a
hardware fault that is not mechanism
related, or requires power cycle to
recover.

Autoloader Diagnostics
Required

The autoloader mechanism may have a
hardware fault. Run extended diagnostics to
verify and diagnose the problem. Check the
autoloader users manual for device specific
instructions on running extended diagnostic test.
The autoloader does not support this flag.

Autoloader Interface
C
The autoloader has a problem with the host
interface:
1.Check the cables and cable connections.
2.Restart the operation.
The autoloader has identified an
interfacing fault.

Autoloader Predictive
Failure
W
A hardware failure of the autoloader(drive) is
predicated. Call the customer service.
The autoloader does not support this flag.

Autoloader
Maintenance
W
Preventative maintenance of the autoloader is
required. Check the autoloader users manual for
device specific preventative maintenance tasks,
or call customer service.
