TRANSMISSION REMOVAL &
INSTALLATION
1. Remove the mower deck. See Mower Deck Repair.
2. Elevate the rear end. (see Elevating Rear End for
Safe Service) and remove the rear wheels (see Rear
Wheel Removal).
3. Remove the brake return spring (4, Figure 3).
4. Remove the brake lever (41, Figure 2).
5. Disconnect the Neutral Safety Switch (15, Figure 3)
by removing the two small screws under the cover
(2).
6. Disconnect the shift bracket (12, Figure 4) and the
rear shift bar (14, Figure 4).
7. Disconnect both torque straps (19 and 17, Figure 3)
from the transmission and frame.
8. Engage the parking brake.
9. Loosen the transmission mounting bolts (7, Figure 3).
10. Remove the drive belt from the transmission input
pulley.
11. Support the transmission with a floor jack, remove
the mounting bolts, and lower the transmission out of
the carrier assembly making sure it clears all link-
ages.
Install the transmission in reverse order of removal
and perform brake adjustment.
REMOVE EXTERNAL
COMPONENTS & LINKAGES
1. Remove the input pulley set screw and then remove
the pulley.
2. Remove all external linkages.
