Figure 41: Inserting and removing 8 mm tape cartridges
Inserting an 8 mm cartridge
Ê
Make sure that neither the data transfer indicator nor the ready indicator is
flashing.
Ê
With the viewing window facing up, push the cartridge into the drive until the
automatic mechanism engages and pulls it all the way in.
The cartridge is now in position. The ready indicator (green LED) does not yet light
up because the tape has not yet been looped around the read/write head. The tape
drive does not spool the start of the tape around the read/write head until it is
accessed by a command.
Removing an 8 mm cartridge
Ê
Always wait until the ready indicator (green LED) has changed from flashing to
steady and the data transfer indicator has switched off.
If about two minutes pass without the drive being accessed, the drive
automatically winds the tape back into the cartridge. The ready indicator
then switches off. The cartridge can be removed.
Ê
Press the release button.
The tape disengages from the read/write head and the cartridge is ejected.
Ê
Pull the cartridge out of the drive.
