turns blue. The discoloration can be removed with a standard metal cleaner or a vinegar or
lemon solution.
• In addition to the blue discoloration, so-called scale can occur on stainless steel surfaces. This
is a matter of simple lime stains or lime deposits caused by the water, which can be removed
with a vinegar and water solution (1 part vinegar essence, 5 parts water). Instead of vinegar,
you can also use lemon juice.
• Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant on the basis of its chemical composition. However, the
material is sensitive to extraneous/surface rust. This occurs if iron particles in combination
with water come into contact with the surface of the stainless steel. The passive layer which
protects the stainless steel from external „attacks“ is destroyed as a consequence; the stain-
less steel is unprotected and loses its corrosion resistance – extraneous rust occurs. It is ge-
nerally difficult to establish where the iron particles come from. Thus, it may be the case that
water supply pipes are still made of iron, or the stainless steel vessel has come into contact
with other ferrous items in the dishwasher. The wash can be removed with standard stainless
steel care products.
• Particularly stubborn dirt on uncoated stainless steel vessels can be removed with the help of
a table spoon of dishwasher detergent. Boil it in water and leave it to stand overnight; then
please rinse it out carefully with hot water.
• In order to avoid losses of energy, ensure that the base of the vessel largely corresponds with
the diameter of the hob used. The size of the flames of the gas hob should also be adapted
to the vessel.
• When a stainless steel vessel is used on an open flame (e.g. gas cooker, rechaud), there may
be discoloration on the base on the outside. The functioning of the vessel is not impaired by
this.
