Commissioning a TripSaver II Recloser for Use with the Communication Gateway
The recommended procedure to commission (or pair) TripSaver II reclosers with the
gateway is to pair them one at a time at the installation site. This will ensure each
device is fully and securely connected before pairing the next device. When paired, the
TripSaver II recloser will only communicate with it’s paired gateway using a secure,
encrypted protocol. The security keys used to encrypt the communications are unique
to the pair and cannot be transferred between TripSaver II reclosers or gateways. The
recommended steps are:
STEP 1.
Add the TripSaver II recloser to the gateway using the
TripSaver II Device
Management
screen. The screen will display the
Commissioning
status.
STEP 2.
Connect a power module to the TripSaver II recloser. This could be either the
cordless power module (S&C Catalog Number 5954) or the corded power
module (provided in the TripSaver II recloser configuration kit, S&C Catalog
Number 5950). If using the corded power module, the TripSaver II recloser
must first be removed from the utility pole.
DANGER
The TripSaver II Cutout-Mounted Recloser MUST be de-energized and removed
from the utility pole before attaching the “corded” power module (power module with
ac adapter and extension cord) to the base of the TripSaver II recloser . The corded
power module is ONLY intended to be used for setup and data collection when the
TripSaver II recloser is de-energized and removed from the utility pole . Failure to
remove the TripSaver II recloser from the utility pole before connecting the corded
power module can cause arcing, burns, electric shock, and death .
STEP 3.
Using the USB transceiver, connect to the TripSaver II recloser with the
service center configuration software. Refer to S&C Instruction Sheet
461-504 for more information.
STEP 4.
In the
Communication Settings
menu, change the
Communications Mode
to
Gateway Mode
. Click on the
Apply
button. Wait for settings to be
successfully applied.
STEP 5.
Disconnect from the TripSaver II recloser using the service center
configuration software.
