GENERAL

Please read this information carefully before using the product and observe the instructions contained here-

in. Failure to adhere to the following instructions can adversely affect the level of protection provided by

this helmet

The product is a mountaineering helmet, primarily designed for impact protection against rock fall

and offering protection to climbers during a fall. It is essential that you familiarise yourself with this

product before using it for the first time.

Please note the following information:

Mountaineering and climbing are dangerous sports that can involve unforeseeable risks You are

responsible for any activities that you undertake and any decisions that you make. Please find out

about the risks involved in these type of sports prior to practising them SALEWA recommends full

training by appropriate personnel (eg mountain guides, climbing trainers) before undertaking any

mountaineering or climbing activities In addition, anyone practising these sports is fully responsible

for finding out about the proper course of action and techniques required for the safe performance

of any rescue operations The manufacturer is not held liable in any form for the consequences of

abuse or incorrect use of equipment. Please also take note of the certification details relevant to any

other protective equipment components used

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Always check the condition of your helmet first before using it. Check all straps, attachment parts and

make sure that the adjustment elements on the headband function properly Make sure that the helmet

shape is not deformed and that it does not have any other visible damage WARNING: Please note that

your helmet has been designed to absorb the maximum amount of force during impact.  This is effected

by the helmet deforming, which can cause it to incur damage or be rendered unfit for use. However,

this is not always visible to the naked eye For this reason, the helmet must be replaced immediately

following any significant impact in cases such as a climber fall or as a result of rock or ice fall, even if

the damage is not visible

Extreme temperatures (below -20°C/-4°F and above +35°C/95°F), paint, solvents, adhesives/glues or

stickers can all alter the physical characteristics of the helmet, and therefore may only be used with

instructions or permission provided by the manufacturer

Paint, solvents, adhesives/glues or stickers can all alter the physical characteristics of the helmet, and

therefore may only be used with instructions or permission provided by the manufacturer

If you are in any doubt whatsoever regarding the condition of your helmet, please contact your SALEWA

specialist dealer

HELMET SETTINGS

Warning: A helmet can only provide optimum protection if it is properly and correctly fitted to match

your individual head size and shape If this is not the case, DO NOT USE THE HELMET Swap it for

another size or another model. A helmet that does not properly fit your head, or which is too loose,

will significantly impair the helmet’s protective capability.

Illustration 1 - Adjusting helmet fit to your head size:

First, expand the headband to its maximum dimensions via the adjustment wheel (turn anti-clock-

The Piuma 20 has a magnetic buckle on its chin strap which is easily adjustable with one hand You

should practice opening and closing this buckle before using it

Illustration 5A - Plug buckle:

closes with a loud click The Salewa logo should be on the outside
