SWA 2060
car amplifier
The two-channel universal car amplifier is suitable to operate deep, midrange-deep +
high and broadband speakers. Useable as 2 and 1 channel device as well. Connected
in bridge with large output power it is suitable for operating subwoofers, sub tubes. Its
crossover is adjustable, and it is possible to set the frequency transmission that suits
your system the best. For bass boosting it is supplied with a BASS BOOST circuit,
whose efficiency is adjustable.
ELECTRONIC CROSSOVER
The base of the device’s universal usability is the switchable active crossover. With
the help of this, the amplifier can operate in broadband operation mode operating
traditional, broadband or more-way car speakers, but only deep or midrange-deep
w tweeters. The breakpoint of the crossover can be adjusted between 50 -
250 Hz. This means that in sub-bass (LPF) operation mode the frequency-response
can be adjusted between 10 - 50 Hz and 10 - 250 Hz, in HPF position between 100
- 20.000 Hz, and between 2.200 - 20.000 Hz. In case of operating in broadband mode
(FLAT) the announced frequency band will be: 10 - 20.000 Hz.
The switches and controllers affect the operation of both channels to the same extent.
To increase the depth of sounding, set the BASS BOOST switch to 6 dB or 12 dB
position. In 0 dB position the bass boost is switched off. Attention! Different sources
and music styles may require different settings! In case of properly installed and well-
functioning sound system, it is recommended to leave this feature switched off.
CONNECTING SPEAKERS
Make sure to wire according to correct polarity. In stereo operation mode use at least
2 or 4 Ohm resistance speakers, and if using high performance, connected in bridge,
use at least 4 Ohm resistance speaker. This load impedance can also be achieved by
connecting several speakers together, but their output must reach the specified value.
Recommended cable cross section: min. 2 x 1 mm
2
..
CONNECTING INPUT SIGNAL
The
LINE INPUT
labeled two RCA sockets (
CH1, CH2
) and the sound source (car
radio, multimedia unit…) must be connected with RCA connector plug supplied stereo
wire. Keep this cord away from the power and speaker wires. If the car radio is only
equipped with a speaker output and does not have a low level (RCA) output, then an
external adapter is required. Recommended option: SAL
SA 001
signal level converter.
CONNECTING POWER SUPPLY
The device must be powered by three terminals. The wire section (+ 12 V) between
the battery and the external fuse socket (not included) should preferably not be longer
than 50 cm. The chassis of the body must also be as short as possible.
At first, connect the negative pole. It is extremely important that this connection has
perfect body-contact. Its fault may cause noise, distortion and malfunction. The cross-
section of the power cables must be minimum 6-10 mm
2
(REM cable: 0,75 mm
2
)!
Recommended option: SAL SA 333 power cable set.
* If the car radio does not have a 12 V output for this purpose, then this point can be
connected with the outlet. In this case, it is advisable either to insert a switch in front
of the remote control connector, or to bring the switch-voltage from a point, which is
voltage-free after removing the ignition key. In the absence of this, the amplifier would
be constantly under power and would load the battery.
INSTALLATION – ERROR SEARCH
Before you first power the amplifier, check it the connections are correct. The
connections should be stable and free of short circuit, the switches, the controllers
should be set to the right positon. The
POWER
indicator’s green color indicates normal
operation state, the
PROTECT
red LED indicates that the protection circuits becomes
operational. The latter refers to failure, overload, poor connection.... Power off the
device immediately!
If the green LED is off at all, disconnect the speakers and the car radio after power
off, then re-energize them. If the indicator remains dark afterwards, use a voltmeter
to make sure that the amplifier receives the 12 Volt power supply and that the body
point connection is fault-free. If the car radio has a separate remote control output
and is connected (REMOTE), then the presence of the switching voltage must also
be checked.
The unit or wire causing the fault can be limited by connecting back on power supply
step by step. If necessary, check the fuse(s) for proper condition, too! If you hear
different noises from the system – after its volume has been lowered – firstly pull out
the RCA connectors of the amplifier. If the noise continues to be heard, check the
correct grounding of the amplifier.
However, if the noise disappears, it means that its source is outside the amplifier.
Possible causes: ground loop, contact failure in the head unit, sound processor,
crossover… or in other devices inserted into the audio chain. Faulty circuit breaker, old
accumulator, bad ignition cables, faulty contacts can all be the cause of audible noise.
SET THE INPUT SIGNAL LEVEL
Set the
GAIN
(0 dB…-30 dB) rotary knob to
MIN
position. Switch on the car radio and
set its volume control to approx. ¾ volume position. Slowly start rotating the
GAIN
rotary knob clockwise, until you can hear distortion at the musical peaks. Then reset
slightly. This will be the maximum volume of the system that can be heard in good
quality without distortion. The setting of
GAIN
depends on how large the output signal
of the car radio is, and may therefore vary by device.
With further regulation by GAIN, the output power of the amplifier no longer rises and
the volume control of the car radio can only be rolled up to a smaller level, as system
distortion increases! The distorted sound damages the speakers!
