General Information
The following instructions are designed to assist in unpacking, installing and performing maintenance as required on RTK multi nozzle
desuperheater. Product users and Maintenance personnel should thoroughly review this document prior to installing, operating or performing
any maintenance on the desuperheater.
Multi nozzle desuperheater is used to regulate the temperature of the steam (steam cooling). This is done by spraying a fine mist
of cooling agent (usually water) into the hot flowing steam. The cooling agent is injected through a number of nozzles into the hot
flowing steam. The cooling agent is optimally and finely dispersed.
The selection of the multi nozzle desuperheater depends on the working conditions and the intended standard task. They differ in
connecting dimensions, nominal pressure level, flange design as well as housing and nozzle orientation.
Attention!
Multi nozzle desuperheater should only be used for the designated working conditions.
The housing material and nominal pressure level are stated on the housing of the control valve. These data must be suited to the
maximum permissible working conditions (pressure and temperature).
Every desuperheater has a unique serial number, which is written on the identification plate of the valve as "W. Nr." When
ordering spare parts, always state the serial number of the desuperheater. See Appendix Figure 1.
Multi nozzle desuperheater are subjected to several tests (pressure testing, leakage testing,...) including performance checks in
the manufacturing plant. That means that the desuperheater does not need to be adjusted.
Attention!
Before installing or commissioning desuperheater, please read the pamphlet 0000-7004 "Hazard warning...“
To avoid possible injury to personnel or damage to the desuperheater parts, WARNING and CAUTION notes must be strictly
followed. Modifying this product, substituting non-factory parts or using maintenance procedures other than outlined could
drastically affect performance and be hazardous to personnel and equipment and may void existing warranties.
Standard industry safety practices must be adhered to when working on this or any other process control product. Specifically,
personal protective and lifting devices must be used as warranted.
Only trained and qualified specialist staff may install and commission valves.

Installation of multi nozzle desuperheater
Observe the following when installing the multi nozzle desuperheater
:
Clearance
The installation position should be easily accessible. There must be adequate space for maintenance work to be performed
and to open the actuator hood. Multi nozzle desuperheater installed outdoors should have suitable weather protection such
as a sun and rain hood. The cooling water connection and feed piping must be protected suitably against possible freezing.
Before installing:
Remove protective caps from the water flange opening.
Cleaning the piping:
To ensure a tight connection of the multi nozzle desuperheater, the piping must be rinsed / blown through thoroughly before installing
the desuperheater. This prevents dirt particles such as rust, scale or welding beads from damaging the seat /plug / nozzle of the multi
nozzle desuperheater. Appropriate measures must be taken in order to ensure that clean cooling medium is fed into the system and
protect the system from soiling during normal working conditions.
Installation position:
The valve should be preferably installed in
horizontal
piping with upright actuator.
