5. Maintenance
Poorly maintained equipment can become a safety hazard! To operate the machine safely
and properly over a long period of time, periodic maintenance and occasional repairs are
necessary.
Never allow untrained personnel to service the generator. The engine must be serviced
by a certified engineer and the generator must be serviced by a certified electrician.
5.1. Safety notes
Before starting with any cleaning, greasing, repairing or servicing procedure you have to assure
that the following instructions are observed exactly:
• Always let the engine cool down to environment temperature. Engine, generator and muf
-
fler are very hot after operation - never touch these parts. Danger of burning.
• Before servicing the machine you have to assure, that all lines of the load are discon
-
nected (including neutral line).
You have to assure, that the engine is not able to start during the maintenance activ-
ity:
• The engine must stand still.
• Unplug the spark plug connector to assure the engine can not start in any case.
Never change any electrical parts or electrical cable. Changing in electrical parts could
result in loosing the protection of the generator and severe injury or death.
Be careful if you come closer to moveable parts or high temperature parts during the
maintenance. Approach with due care.
5.2. Cleaning
The cleaning has to be done from outside with compressed air.
Using of any liquids (solvent, detergent) or wet cleaning rag for cleaning is forbidden!
The internally electric and electronic components, cables or connectors must not be
cleaned with compressed air. This could result in short circuits or other errors.
For the cooling of the engine and the generator a unhindered air circulation is extremely
important. Therefor you have to clean also small debris at the cooling holes immedi-
ately.
5.3. Maintenance notes
If you carry out the machine for any routine maintenance via a engineering company, please
let them confirm their accomplished service activities.
Consequential damages based on not appropriate activities or neglect maintenance are
not covered by guarantee.
The correction of defects which can be solved from the user during standard maintenance ac-
tivities (for example clogged fuel filter) are also not covered by guarantee.
5.4. Isolation resistance
Before using the generator and in periodically intervals the isolation of the generator coils must
be checked.
If the isolation resistance declined below 1 MΩ for the stator or 100 kΩ for the rotor, the
generator coils must be dehumidified - operation forbidden. The protection of the gen
-
erator would be ineffective - this could result in severe injury or death!
