CHECKLIST
1.
Is unit size correct ?

Check for proper line voltage ?

Base plates shimmed as required?

Are all mounting bolts tight ?

Is the open limit switch set so the curtain is clear of the
required area ?

Are loose wires secured away from moving parts?

Operate the door and observe the open and closed
positions. If it is necessary to adjust either position, shut
the power off and move the proper limit switch,
Figure 13.1 or 13.2.

Limit switch or encoder shroud installed.

Operate all devices to verify proper operation.
Verify that brake stops the door at open and closed
positions as well as when stopped in the middle of
travel. To move the curtain manually, release the
brake handle at the bottom of the brake. The curtain
should be able to be moved manually. If brake is
making noise, adjust.
Clean, check all connections with disconnect off.
Make sure all wires are free from moving parts.
Inspect for wear or damage, patch immediately.
Check barrier clips, if missing or damaged,
replaced. Clean with warm non abrasive soapy
water.
Perform visual inspection for damage.
Tighten all hardware. Replace any worn labels.
Use air hose to remove dust and debris.
Operate door and make sure all operations are
functioning properly.
Check gearbox fluid level, fill with 90 weight if low.
Check snap rings to verify seated properly.
Check open and close positions, adjust as required.
Lubricate chain, sprockets and check alignment.

PROBLEM

Control Box (Optional)
The control box contains the necessary motor starters, relays, transformers, etc. to safely control 3 phase
power, open, close and stop push buttons. If control box does not power up, check fuses and replace
as needed.
Curtain
The curtain provides a safety barrier against sparks, harmful light emissions and physical contact with the
machine by the operator. Spheres are fastened to the curtain to retain the curtain in the guides.
Vision windows are available as an option. If curtain does not track properly, lower as far as possible to
expose the hook and loop fastener and adjust.
Curtain remains open
Optional reversing photoeye alignment incorrect. (Red LED on photoeye off.) Realign photoeye.

Curtain Guides
The guides contain the curtain.
Curtain does not stop
Limit switch positioning incorrect. Ensure that the limit switches are properly positioned. Failed limit switch,

check for continuity, replace if necessary. Make sure center locking screw is tight.
Curtain travel reversed. Motor phases reversed. Remove power, reverse wires in terminals L1 & L2.
Curtain will not go up
Loss of power. Verify that electrical power is getting to the control box. Bad fuse, check fuses. Make sure

Curtain tracks off
Curtain misaligned. Curtain may need to be adjusted on the hook and loop fastener. Anchors may be loose
to one side.
Both vertical lower guides must be plumb and level. When a forklift bumps into the guides it could cause
damage or misalignment. Repair as required. The distance between guides must be the same when
measured at the top and bottom. Shim or remount as required.
Interlock Devices
The interlock keeps the machine from functioning unless the curtain is in position. The interlock mounts on

the bottom of the guide and is activated by the curtain when it comes into the closed position.
Limit Assembly
If limits come out of adjustment, make sure the center locking screw is tightened down,

Motor Assembly
The motor assembly includes the motor, gearbox, brake and limit switch or encoder. For wiring of the

If motor doesn’t run, look for loose connections, check all connections in terminals T1, T2,
T3, and the connectors. Brake not releasing. Check brake connections.
Guides
The guides are made of a welded structure and are bolted to the header to support the weight of the
DEFENDER.
