Attaching the sensors
Step 1:
Positioning of the sensors
After you made the choice of where to do the analysis, we recommend measuring the
circumference of the trunk (or branch) at that level.
Decide how many sensors you need. Then choose the position of each sensor that
represents the shape of the stem best:
Place the sensors at the outermost and innermost spots of the stem (see below)
In order to get the best results possible please arrange the sensors at the same level
around the tree.
Avoid placing sensors directly into decayed wood or wood that was exposed to air and
therefore dried.
For conveniences reasons always place the first sensors in northward direction.

Step 2:
Fix the sensor pins around the trunk at the selected positions. Please note: The
function of the pins is to hold the sensors and to transmit the stress wave to the
wood. Thus, it is absolutely essential to penetrate through the bark and attach the
pins in the wood.
IMPORTANT:
Make sure that the pins are anchored securely in the wood.
Anchoring in the bark only will lead to insufficient results and
may cause misinterpretation of the gathered data.
Step 3:
Attaching the sensors
Put the measuring tape clockwise
tightly, around the tree. Start at the
pin, to which sensor 1 will be
attached. (See image) Then attach
the sensors to the pins. Again, they
should be arranged clockwise around
the tree. Be sure that sensors are
tightly screwed to the pins.
Step 4:
Connecting the sensors
