GAS INFLATION SYSTEM
Warning:
The charged gas cylinder can become a lethal projectile if discharged to
atmosphere when not fitted with a cap. Always fit a recoil cap to a cylinder
valve outlet when handling a fully charged cylinder.
1.
Inspect non-return valves for visual defects and security.
2.
Weigh the cylinder (minus the diffuser caps) and check it against the weight marked on the
cylinder. Refer to Table B in Chapter 8 – Assembly for information on weight tolerance.
Note:
The charged weight does not include the weight of the bleeding down tool or a
diffuser cap, and due allowance for these items must be made when checking
the full weight.
3.
Check that the syphon tube (IPL Fig. 3, Item 30) inside the cylinder is still serviceable. Shake the
cylinder, if the tube is still flexible it will strike the wall of the cylinder with a ringing sound. If
there is a noticeable delay before the sound is heard, the tube has stiffened and is no longer
serviceable. The cylinder must be rejected.
Note:
Refer to Chapter 8 - Assembly for recharging instructions.
4.
Check the date of the last hydrostatic pressure test. (Refer to Chapter 4, Testing)
Note:
Hydrostatic testing is required by the DOT within the past 5 years before a
cylinder can be recharged.
Note:
A cylinder valve inflation test will need to be performed every five (5) years
after purchase.
Note:
Perform a hydrostatic test and overhaul the cylinder valve after every gas
system inflation test.
5.
The external condition of the cylinder must be checked. (See Chapter 8 - Assembly for details)
