e) Setting the pitch value for the main rotor blades
When using a model helicopter, it is important to be able to set the pitch of the main rotor blades. A table of recommended
settings is provided further down in these instructions.
To measure and set the angle of attack, proceed as follows:
Position the helicopter with its front facing you.
One main rotor blade (1) should be pointing towards you.
Take a feeler gauge (2) (available as an accessory), set it
to 0° and push it onto the main rotor blade (1). The control
stick for the pitch function (ill. 1, pos. 7) should at first be
in middle position.
The top edge of the gauge should be parallel to the padd-
le rod (3) (see indicated auxiliary lines). Make sure that
the paddle rod has been aligned horizontally first.
Should any changes be necessary, take off the linkage
rod (4), turn the ball head (5), and clip it back on.
The deflection of the main rotor blades for the upper and
lower range can be adjusted in the same way using the
two controls (ill. 1a, pos. 5, 6).
f) Balancing the rotor blades
To ensure that the mechanical parts run smoothly and with
minimum vibration, it is absolutely necessary to balance
the main rotor blades (1). You can use standard rotor blade
scales (2), which are available as an accessory.
It is important that the rotor blades are precisely aligned
to each other along a straight line (3) and can pivot in
either direction with minimum friction. Small strips of
adhesive tape (4) with the required weight are attached to
the tip of the lighter rotor blade around the leading edge.
The tail rotor blades are balanced in the same way.
