Generating Wav e-
forms Using the
Equation Editor
One powerful feature of WaveCAD is the Equation Editor. The Equa-
tion Editor lets you express mathematical equations almost as you
would on a blank piece of paper. The equations are then translated
to sequential points that form waveforms displayed on the waveform
graph. The Equation Editor detects and informs you of syntax errors
and, with its self-adjusting feature, automatically adjusts parameters
so that none of the points on the waveform exceed the maximum.
When you invoke the Equation Editor, the dialog box, as shown in
Figure 3-21 pops up. Use the following paragraphs to learn how to
use this dialog box for writing equations.
There are three main sections in the equation editor plus control
buttons. These sections are described below.

Anchor
The Anchor section has two fields: Start and End Point.
Start (pts)
– Defines the first point where the created wave starts.
Note that if you change the start point the left anchor automatically
adjusts itself to the selected start point.
End (pts)
– Defines where the created waveform ends. Note that as
you change the end point the right anchor automatically adjusts itself
to the selected end point.
Level Adjuster
The Level Adjuster is a convenient tool, which helps you adjust the
amplitude and offset without modifying your equation. The Level Ad-
juster mode does not interfere with your calculations and displays the
waveform as computed from your equation. The only difference is
that your final calculations are stretched, shrunk, or offset on the ver-
tical scale to fit the amplitude and offset boundaries.
For example, look at the equation shown in Figure 3-21. This equa-
