Switching the Server On and Off Starting Up and Operation
5.3 Switching the Server On and Off

CAUTION!
If after switching ON the server there is nothing but flickering stripes on
the screen, switch the server OFF immediately (see
chapter “Trouble-
shooting and Tips” on page 79 ).
The power button does not disconnect the server from the mains voltage.
To completely disconnect it from the mains voltage, remove the power
plug(s) from the socket(s).
Switching the server on
– Starting up for the first time:
Ê Press the ON/OFF button (position 1 in figure 22 on page 61 ).

Insert the
ServerStart
disc 1 and/or an installation disk in the corre-
sponding drive.
Ê Follow the on-screen instructions (see also section “Configuration with
ServerStart” on page 73 or section “Configuration without ServerStart”
on page 74 ).
– System already installed:
The Power on indicator (position 2 in figure 22 on page 61 ) lights orange
(standby mode).

Press the ON/OFF button (position 1 in figure 22 on page 61 ).
The server is switched on, performs a system test and boots the
operating system.
Switching the server OFF
Power on indicator (position 2 in figure 22 on page 61 ) lights green.
Ê Shut down the operating system properly.
The server is switched off automatically and goes into standby mode. The
power on indicator lights up orange.

If the server does not switch off immediately, hold the ON/OFF button
down for at least four seconds or send a corresponding control signal.
