7 Functions and operation
7.1 Functions
7.1.1 The general structure of the compressor can be found in Appendix C.
7.2 Control, operation and safety devices
7.2.1 The compressor is equipped with devices for control and operation and devices to
ensure safety. These are:

Pressure gauge: Indicates the pressure of the compressed air in the pressure
vessel;

Pressure switch: Control unit, which controls the power and the repeated on /
off switching operations of the compressor;

Relief valve
:
Decompresses the piston cylinder when the
drive motor is switched off;

Safety valve: Ensures that the maximum pressure in the
pressure vessel is not exceeded;

Overload protection: Protects the electrical equipment from a
short circuit or a power supply phase failure.
Depending on the design, the overload protection is located on the electric
motor, on the motor winding, on the wiring board of the control unit or is
integrated into the pressure switch.
