Normal, Battery, and Bypass Modes with Parallel Operation
The Parallel system functions automatically to supply AC electrical power to the
critical load. There are three standard operation modes:
•
In Normal mode, the critical load is supplied clean, filtered power from the paralleled
UPMs, through the Parallel Cabinet.
•
In Battery mode, the battery provides DC power, which maintains UPM operation. The
battery and UPM support the critical load.
•
In Bypass mode, the critical load is directly supported by utility power.
The UPS continually monitors itself and the incoming utility power, and
automatically switches between these modes as required, with no operator
intervention, except when manually switching to Bypass mode. The sophisticated
detection and switching logic inside the UPMs ensures that operating mode
changes are automatic and transparent to the critical load.
The following descriptions provide the differences in Parallel System operating
modes.
