SOURCE OF EMISSIONS
The combustion process produces carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons. Control of
hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides is very important because, under certain conditions, they react to
form photochemical smog when subjected to sunlight. Carbon monoxide does not react in the same
way, but it is toxic. Lean-burn engines and other environmentally friendly systems reduce the emission
of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons.
2. Burns from hot parts. Let the engine and the exhaust system cool before you touch it.
3. Injury from moving parts.
CAUTION: To reduce the possibility of fire or explosion, be careful when working around gasoline.
Use only non-flammable solvent, not gasoline, to clean parts. Keep cigarettes, sparks, and flames
away from all fuel-related parts.
