NOTE: Due to extremely close tolerances and
minimal wear, the bearings must be inspected
visually, and by feel. While rotating bearings by
hand, inspect for rough spots, discoloration, or
corrosion. The bearings should turn smoothly and
quietly, with no detectable up and down movement
and minimal movement sideways between inner and
outer race.
10. Replace bearing if moisture, dirt, corrosion, or roughness
is evident.
Bearing Replacement
Bearing Removal
1.
Remove the outer retaining ring from the bearing carrier.
2.
Support the bearing carrier in an arbor press and remove the
bearing by pressing it out from the back side.
3.
Inspect the bearing carrier housing for scratches, wear or
damage. Replace rear bearing carrier if damaged.
Bearing Installation
4.
Thoroughly clean the rear bearing carrier housing and the
outer race on the new bearing. Be sure that all oil residue
has been removed from each surface.
5.
Support the bottom of the bearing carrier housing.
6.
Apply
Loctite
®
603
™
retaining compound to the outer
circumference of the new bearing race and carefully press
the new bearing into the bearing carrier housing.
NOTE: Use care to not allow any of the Loctite
®
compound to get in the bearing.
7.
Wipe the housing clean of any excess compound and install
the snap ring.
CAUTION
Use an arbor and press only on the outer race
or bearing damage may occur.
