4.3 Troubleshooting
Listed below are common service problems and corresponding troubleshooting actions for each
issue.
1. Is the Card Reader reading cards?
• If
no
, what color is the LED on the reader?
• Solid red = lock out mode; will not accept any cards
• Solid amber = card accept mode (see below)
• Green = on schedule; open
• If the reader is
amber and not reading cards
, remove and wire the reader directly to the con-
troller and test.
• If the reader
works at the controller
, check your wires at the front and tone out cable for
continuity
• If the reader
does not work at the controller
, replace reader
• If you swipe the reader and
reader works but door does not open
, ensure the reader is wired
to the correct relay at the board. If it is, make sure power is being sent to door locking
devices.
2. What type of
door hardware
is installed?
• Maglocks
• Make sure there is power going to the magnet
• Check the magnet board for any corrosion (water damage)
• Check the magnet board for any pieces of metal on the board that may short it
• Make sure the cables are wired correctly (polarity sensitive)
• Door Strike
• Make sure the door strike is installed correctly and free of obstruction (verify that the latch is
not hitting the storefront)
• Make sure the cables are connected securely (most strikes are not polarity sensitive)
• Are any override key switches installed? (Maglock doors ONLY)
• Check to see if the strike is fail secure or fail safe (differs when wired at the ACS controller)
3. Are any
override key switches
installed? (Maglock doors ONLY)
• If
yes
, check the key switch position (should be closed). Make sure all cables are properly termi-
nated at the switch. If more than one key switch is installed, verify series between them is cor-
rect.
4. Is an
exit button
installed?
• If
yes
, make sure the back of the exit button is wired correctly and confirm no physical damage
to the exit button. Tone out the exit button to verify continuity.
