Note 3: United Kingdom wiring regulations BS7671: 2018 section 722
prohibit circuits supplying charge equipment for electric vehicles to
include a PEN conductor (TN-C-S earth arrangement), where the charging
point is located outdoors, or is reasonably expected to be used to charge
a vehicle that is located outdoors.
To overcome this, the local earthing arrangement at the EV charger must
be converted to a TT arrangement by the installation of a separate earth
electrode, or alternatively, the installation must incorporate a protective
device which guards against an open circuit PEN conductor fault.
Reference should be made to BS7671 for further guidance.
