Aiming ring
The aiming ring allows for a rapid and correct positioning of the cone of the X-ray
generator and to ensure that the whole sensitive area of the sensor is irradiated.
The aiming ring is clipped on the rod of the positioner by aligning the notch of the
ring with the centring guide on the rod of the positioner.
4.3.4
Bitewing bite block
The bitewing bite block allows for the acquisition of horizontal and vertical bitewing
images.
The bite block is clipped on the upper part of the rod of the positioner. To correctly
centre the bite block opposite the sensor, the notch in the upper part of the bite
block must be aligned with the guide on the rod of the positioner; push the bite
block against the ridge.
The bite block can also be used for other type of images. The bite block must in this
case be moved away from the ridge to be able to rotate it on the rod of the
positioner and align it with the vertical or horizontal side of the rotated sensor.
4.3.5
Endo bite block
The endo bite block allows for the acquisition of images while an instrument (e.g. a
file) is inserted in one of the root canals of the tooth.
The bite block is clipped on the upper part of the positioner by aligning it over the non-
sensitive area of the sensor (in vertical position). The bite block must be moved away
from the ridge to be able to rotate it on the rod of the positioner. The “basket” of the
bite block is then positioned around the crown of the tooth to be X-rayed, so as to
surround the instrument sticking out of the tooth and to guarantee a suitable distance
between the maxillar and mandibular arches.
