VOX (Voice operated switch)
SoundByte can be configured to record for a minimum time when the ambient audio
level exceeds a preset threshold.
Important considerations when using VOX:
1. The preset threshold levels are for guidance only and ideally should be checked
for suitability before deployment.
2. VOX is disabled for 6 seconds after arming to prevent false triggers.
3. Once triggered, SoundByte will record for at least the
“Minimum Recording Time”
shown in the
“Record Control” section. While the trigger is active, the record
duration timer is reset each time the audio level subsequently exceeds a
threshold that is 10dB below the selected level.
4. VOX mode takes a small amount of power when waiting for a trigger. For
example, the internal AAA battery will last for approximately for 2 weeks in VOX
mode (excluding any record time).
5. If the VOX and the External Record Control Input triggers are enabled together,
recording will start when either the external trigger
or
the VOX trigger become
active.
Enabling VOX
Once VOX has been setup and the connection to SoundControl is removed, the VOX
trigger has to be
armed
by pressing [Start]. Six seconds later, the VOX is then enabled
and the LED pulses green twice every two seconds. The VOX trigger can be
subsequently enabled or disabled by pressing the [Start] & [Stop] buttons.
