8600Si using 8600Si PC Remote, there will also be a “backup” subfolder located
within the Alias folder.
Archived user preset files are text files and can be opened in a text editor
(like Notepad) if you want to examine their contents.
Alias folders and their associated backup subfolders are registered in your PC’s Reg-
istry. This prevents folders from being accidentally deleted or moved. If you move or
delete Alias folders from the PC, the Alias folders recreate themselves in the previ-
ous location and restore their contents by copying it from their associated 8600Si
when 8600Si PC Remote connects to such a 8600Si.
Multiple Installations of Optimod 8600Si PC Remote
Rarely, you may want to have more than one installation of 8600Si PC Remote on
your computer. There are a few extra things to know if you have multiple installa-
tions.
If you install a new version of the Optimod 8600Si PC Remote software on your PC,
any Alias folders and backup subfolders created in an earlier software version still
remain in their original location on your PC (and in its registry).
The version of 8600Si PC Remote must match the version of the software in the
8600Si controlled by it. Therefore, you will only need multiple installations of PC
Remote (having separate version numbers) if:

you are controlling multiple 8600Si, and
•
not all of your 8600Si are running the same version of 8600Si software, and
•
you do not want to upgrade at least one controlled 8600Si to the latest version
of 8600Si PC Remote software.
Each version of 8600Si PC Remote has its own top-level folder, normally under
\Program Files\Orban. (The default folder is \Program Files\Orban\Optimod 8600Si.)
When you install a new version of 8600Si PC Remote, the default behavior is to
overwrite the old version, which is usually the desired behavior. To prevent the in-
staller from overwriting the old version, you must specify a different installation
folder when you install the new version (for example, \Program Files\Orban\Optimod
8600Siv2).
Each version of 8600Si PC Remote will display all 8600Si Aliases, even those pointing
to 8600Si with incompatible version numbers. If you attempt to connect to an older
version of 8600Si from a newer version of 8600Si PC Remote, 8600Si PC Remote will
offer to upgrade the software in the target 8600Si so that it corresponds to the ver-
sion of 8600Si PC Remote that is active. If you attempt to connect to newer version
of 8600Si from an older version of 8600Si PC Remote, it will refuse to connect and
will emit an error message regarding incompatible versions.
