using the pins ‘A’. Simultaneously line both sides of the hull, i.e. for every strake that you attach to the left-hand side, attach
another to the right-hand side. Use white glue for this process.
PHOTO 35: The lining strakes must be attached to the stern covering the false keel and the reinforcing battens. Trim off the
excess lining.
PHOTO 36: The lining will also have to cover the reinforcing battens at the stern, extending beyond the last frame.
PHOTO 37: Continue fitting the lining working towards the bulwarks; at the same time continue to attach the lining, working from
the false keel up towards the first strake.
PHOTO 38: To finish off the hull lining make up pieces to fill the gaps (these are the parts that do not run the whole length of the
hull and are sharpened at both ends).
PHOTO 39: Complete the lining of the bow using wedge shaped pieces made to fill the remaining gaps.
PHOTO 40: Adjust the outline of the lining in the area of the stern using a half-round file. Before starting this operation check
plan no. 1.
PHOTO 41: When the hull lining has been completed, using a file, file down the heads of the pins until they are flush with the
lining.
PHOTO 42: Sand down the whole of the hull in order to unify the surfaces. A 4 mm wide flat area must be left at both the bow
and the stern.
PHOTO 43: Attach the lining /no. 42) to the outside of the stern transom, use contact adhesive for this operation.
PHOTO 44: Line the bulwarks using the lining (no. 43), working from their base up until they are completely covered and,
simultaneously, make holes in both sides of the hull, using contact adhesive as an adhesive. Use a cutter to trim off the lining
covering the scuppers.
PHOTO 45: Start to attach the lining (no. 44), working from the false keel up towards the bulwarks. In this case you must also
use contact adhesive.
PHOTO 46: Continue to attach the lining (no. 44), starting below the bulwarks and working towards the false keel.
PHOTO 47: To fill in the gaps use pieces cut to size and either sharpened at both ends or in the shape of wedges, as with the
first layer of lining.
PHOTO 48: The hull must look like this when you have finished the lining process. File down the hull, using fine grade
sandpaper, leaving it smooth. Take care not to sand too hard as the lining is very fine.
PHOTO 49: Attach the parts (nos. 45, 46, 47 & 48) using quick drying glue, after first having checked plan no. 1.
PHOTO 50: Glue the rubbing strakes (nos. 49, 50 & 51) using quick drying glue. Before carrying out this operation check with
plan no. 1.
PHOTO 51: Cut the pin rails (nos. 52 & 53) to size and fit them in place.
PHOTO 52: Following the numerical order, fit the limber boards (nos. 54, 55, 56 & 57) into place. These parts should cover the
top edge of the bulwarks and the stanchions. Make up the parts (no. 58) and glue lengths of strip to them.
PHOTO 53: Make up the parts (no. 59) and glue them into place, having first checked plan no. 2. Sand down the part (no. 60)
until it takes on the shape shown in the plans, and then paint it black and fit it in place. Drill 0.75 mm. holes in which to fit each of
the eyebolts ‘B’.
PHOTOS 54- 55: Put together the rudder blade and the parts shown in the photo. Using cutting pliers, adjust the hinges to the
required length.
PHOTO 56: Check with plan no. 1 and then attach the rudder blade to the stern post. Attach the eyebolts, ‘B’, as shown in the
photo.
PHOTO 57: Glue the parts (nos. 64 & 65) into place. Make up the davits (no. 66) and attach them to the inwales, as shown in
the photo. Also attach the eyebolts, ‘B’.
PHOTO 58: Glue the cleats (no. 68) and attach the eyebolts ‘B’ as shown in the photo. Check with plan no. 1 to ascertain the
distances at which these parts must be attached.
SUPERSTRUCTURE
PHOTO 59: Join the strips of grating (no. 69) together to make up a part of 30 units. Use quick drying glue for this process.
PHOTO 60: Using a small saw cut off a section of grating with ten complete holes long each side. Then cut another section with
nine complete holes along each side.
PHOTO 61: Work over the four sides of the grating with a file and then frame it using the parts (nos. 70 & 71).
Having reached this stage in the construction of your model, follow the established numerical order and make up the parts
represented in this section. Some of these parts have to be painted and decorated. To this end use acrylic water-based paints.
Once the parts have been made up they must be glued into position as shown in the photo and with the distribution indicated in
the plans.
PHOTOS 62 - 63 - 64: Paint the two boats (nos. 118) in shades of brown, make up the thwarts (no. 119) and fit them to the
boats. Glue two eyebolts ‘B’ to one of the boats. Attach the boat to the davits using the rigging (no. 120). Attach two eyebolts ‘B’
to the lengthways frames of the large grating. Place the other boat on the supports and tie it off to the eyebolts with the lashing
(no. 121).
PHOTO 65: Paint the knots in the parts (no. 122) gold and glue then to the anchors (no. 123). Fit a ring ‘F’ to the end of each
anchor and tie the ring off to the anchor rope (no. 124). Reinforce this union using the lashings (no. 125)
