crew member tend the dinghy bow line to control its motion!
10)
Secure the dinghy to a cleat aft.
The davit rigging is released from the dinghy eyes (but not the cable) and the davit is
raised enough so that the rigging is clear of the water.
Secure the rigging by loosely attaching it to a rail so the davit rigging and
boom cannot swing and damage the yacht’s fixtures.
To stow the dinghy:
11)
Tilt the outboard up so the skeg at bottom by prop is up at least 5"-6" higher than the
dinghy’s bottom.
12)
Lower the cable (“Out”) until the sling hooks can be re-attached to the dinghy eyes.
13)
Lift the dinghy out of the water. It is a good idea to pause for a moment, remove the
drain plug, and let most the seawater drain off of the boat before lifting it further.
14)
With someone tending the bow line and keeping the dinghy steady and clear of the
vessel, raise the dinghy until it is clear of the boat and rails.
15)
Cautiously swing the boom and dinghy into place above its chocks, then lower it carefully
to be sure it seats properly in the chocks.
16)
Lower the motor being sure it is clear and that the motor skeg will not damage Morveren;
the motor should be clear of the deck.
If the dinghy will be used soon without the likelihood of encountering any
significant seas (not likely the during charter season), you may leave the davit
boom up and the cable secured to the dinghy with a little tension to keep the
boom from swinging and skip to step #20.
Otherwise...
17)
Lower the boom to horizontal. Unhook the cable, then reel the cable in fully.
18)
Pull the latching knob down. Then reel out! The boom will slowly withdraw. When the
boom is fully telescoped in its shortest position, wind the excess cable around the boom
tip and rotate it into its stowed position.
19)
Re-insert the hitch pin and extend the barrel bolt (you may need to momentarily “reel in”
the hoist in order to have the barrel bolt reach into its receiver.
20)
Tie down the dinghy and remove the davit control and replace it in the starboard
doorway step.
