4H5: Electronics: Radar
The boat is equipped with a radar set that displays on the Furuno NavNet system, both
at the flybridge and at the lower helm. This unit is used, combined with the electronic charting,
for operation in restricted visibility, with the radar primarily serving as a device for collision
avoidance while the chart unit provides position.
The radar is equipped with AIS — the remarkable Automatic Identification System which
gathers heading and speed information from ships and other vessels equipped with the
appropriate transponders. This system will project the course of transponder-equipped vessels
on the radar and plotter screens, warning you with a bright red, bold-highlighted predicted
course if intrusion is likely between the vessels into either one’s course by the other.
Proper and safe use of a ship’s radar requires lots of practice and careful study. While
you are using the boat, you can have the radar on as much as you like to get used to the way it
displays images, but for detailed operating instructions we refer you to the radar’s own
complete manual.
4H6: Electronics: Stereo/CD
In the salon forward of the TV is a Stereo AM/FM/Satellite
Radio receiver with a CD player. This is like an automobile unit.
It is satellite and iPod compatible.
4H7: Electronics: TV/DVD/System
The boat has a TV on an “elevator” with a
built in DVD player in the salon, port cabinet. The
TV is a flat screen unit, and the DVD player is built
into its right side (there’s a slot for DVD’s in the
cabinet). They operate conventionally.
The TV lift power must be on at the breaker
in the 110-volt panel by the aft stateroom steps for it to
function. Press the up or down arrows to initiate operation;
it will stop when its positions are reached.
4H8: Electronics: VHF Radio (Fixed)
There are Icom VHF radios at each helm station (with the
mikes nearby). The radios are designed for easy access to
Channel 16 which is the hailing and emergency channel in the
Northwest. In addition, they have Digital Selective Calling for
emergency communications. Detailed instructions are in the
manuals.
