4E: Dinghy, Davit & Outboard
4E1: Davit
This boat has a high-quality Marquipt WD-
800 davit supporting the dinghy.
To launch the dinghy:
1)
The davit runs on DC. It’s a good idea to
have the generator or an engine running to
avoid depleting the batteries.
2)
A crew member gets the davit control box
from its storage place in the starboard salon
door step and plugs it into the dinghy
boom (see photo).
3)
The crew member makes sure the
drain plug is in the dinghy drain and
the key is in the ignition.
If dinghy cable is already secured to
the dinghy, skip to step 7!
4)
The hitch pin is removed and the barrel
bolt withdrawn from their receivers
holding the boom to the flybridge side.
The boom is swung around until it is
over the dinghy.
5)
The davit cable is
raised
(“in”) and the
boom extends itself until the lock
“clicks” into place in the extended
boom.
6)
The boom and hook are
raised/lowered so the hook can be
attached to the dinghy bridle.
7)
The dinghy tie downs are removed.
8)
The outboard motor is tilted up to avoid
damaging
Morveren.
9)
Using the “hoist” controls, raise the dinghy (“in”) until the
hook weight is just shy of the boom pulley, then swing the
dinghy over the starboard side, rotating the dinghy so it is
facing aft and adjusting the boom height so the dingh7y
clears the side of
Morveren
. Have a crew member guide
the boat as it is lowered (“out”) into the water, then lead it
back to the swim step.
Be careful not to “bang” the dinghy into the boat,
and watch the skeg on the outboard motor. Have a
Davit Control in Connector
Receivers on flybridge side for
hitch pin and barrel bolt.
Davit in position, connected to dinghy bridle. Motor should next be tilted up a
little, boom lowered a little so hoist is directly over dinghy, then dinghy will be
raised. Arrow points to locking knob.
Boom locking pin and securing ring.
