If the machine requires mounting to the floor, is the floor solid
and level and is able to allow secure fixing.
Consideration must also be given to the length and width of the
material to be machined. ensuring that there is enough space at
either end and around the machine, to accommodate the largest
piece of material to be machined safely.
ASSEMBLY
Lift out the base plate, remove the protective paper and place
the base plate on a workbench or the floor.
Locate the chuck, chuck key, three handles, four bolts, two
hexagonal keys, telescopic guard and drift and place to one
side for time being. Lift out the worktable, head stock and motor
assembly and the column, remove the protective paper and
place them onto the workbench.
LOCATING THE MACHINE
MOUNTING THE BASE PLATE (PIC. 2)
Select a suitable location for the drill, either on a workbench
or on the floor for mounting the base plate. Be aware of table
legs and anything which might reduce access to the underneath
of the workbench if bench mounted. A suitable mains supply
socket must also be accessible for the plug.
If the drill is to be bench mounted (Model MC450- MC452-
MC350), locate the base plate in the selected position. Select
four suitable length bolts, washers and nuts (not supplied).
Using the base plate as a template drill four holes through the
workbench (Pic. 2) (2.1). Bolt the base plate to the bench. Do
not over tighten as this could crack the cast base plate. The drill
can be secured to the floor using the same procedure.
FITTING THE COLUMN (PICS. 3 & 4)
On the bench mounting model the column support is pre
pressed onto the column. On the floor mounting model slide
the column support onto the column until it is fully located and
tighten the two grub screws securely (Pic. 3).
Align the four threaded holes on the base plate with the column
support holes (Pic. 4). Secure with the four bolts. Do not over
tighten as this could crack the cast base plate and column
support. (MC350: three bolts)
FITTING THE RACK AND PINION GEAR (PICS. 5 & 6)
Locate the table support assembly (Pic. 5) (5.1) and the worm
gear shaft (Pic. 5) (5.2). Offer the worm gear shaft through the
top of the table support assembly and locate the shaft through
the bushing (Pic. 5).
Note that the end of the shaft has been machined with a flat,
which allows the winding handle to be located and secured in
place. Locate the winding handle onto the shaft and secure in
place using the grub screw and tighten using a hex key (Pic. 6).
FITTING THE TABLE SUPPORT (PICS. 7 TO 10)
NOTE:
for Model MC1501 the table is pre-fitted to the table
support assembly.
CAUTION: YOU MAY NEED AN ASSISTANT FOR THE NEXT
PROCEDURE
Lower the rack, into the table support assembly ensuring that it
engages with the worm gear (Pic. 7). Make sure the end of the
rack without teeth is uppermost.
Lower the table support assembly onto the column until the
rack locates into the column base (Pic. 8). The assembly will
slide easily into position so do not use force. Lower the rack
upper retaining collar onto the column and locate it over the
upper end of the rack (Pic. 9.1). Tighten the grub screw with
the hexagonal key supplied (Pic. 9) (9.2). Make sure the table
support assembly together with the rack will rotate 360°. If the
rotation is stiff or if the rack prevents smooth rotation slacken off
the grub screw in the upper retaining collar, adjust the position
of the upper retaining collar and re-tighten the grub screw.
Check the up and down motion of the table support assembly by
winding the handle. The action should be smooth over the full
range of travel. Locate the table assembly securing handle and
screw it into the threaded hole at the rear of the table support
assembly (Pic.10). This handle is used to lock the table into
position after the desired height and 360° rotation positions
have been achieved.
FITTING THE TABLE (PIC. 11)
Models MC450-MC451- MC452 -MC750 Only
For Model MC1501 the table is pre-fitted to the table support
assembly.
Take the table and offer it to the table support assembly locating
the stub shaft into the table clamp. Locate the securing handle
and screw it into the threaded hole in the table clamp and tighten
(Pic. 11). This will secure the table into position.
Caution:
this operation requires two persons.
FITTING THE HEAD STOCK AND MOTOR
ASSEMBLY (PIC. 12)
Locate the two grub screws in the side of the head stock and
motor assembly. Using a hexagonal key slacken the two grub
screws. Lift the head stock and motor assembly and lower it onto
the column. Make sure that it slides down and locates fully on
the column. Position the head stock and motor assembly, with
the Stop/Start switch facing the front and aligned with the base
plate. Tighten the two grub screws (Pic. 12) to secure the head
stock and motor assembly into place. Retain the hexagonal
keys for future adjustments.
FITTING THE HAND FEED HANDLES (PIC. 13)
Locate and install the three, hand feed handles. Simply screw
the handles into the three threaded holes located in the feed
shaft boss (Pic.13) (13.1). Make sure that all three handles are
tight.
FITTING THE TELESCOPIC GUARD
NOTE:
on models MC450 - MC451 - MC452 - MC750 the
telescopic guard must be fitted before fitting the chuck. For
model MC1501 the telescopic guard can be fitted either before
or after fitting the chuck.
MC350:
The telescopic eye guard is partially assembled onto
the machine. Position the clear plastic shield into the red collar
and secure in place with the two small cross head screws (Pic.
13B) (13B.1).
