Chapter 5: DOS Printing
Using the DOS Status Monitor
When you press its hot-key (by default,
b
-
a
-
S), the DOS Status Monitor screen pops up.
Printer Status Information
The name of the SuperScript 870 printer and the
printer port it is connected to are shown on the
first line of the DOS Status Monitor screen.
Information about the printer’s current status is
shown in the middle of the screen. Depending on
whether or not bidirectional communication is
enabled for your printer and the printer’s current
status, one or two lines of status information are
displayed.
Printer Control Options
The printer control options are shown below the
printer status information area. To perform an
action, type its letter as indicated on the screen.
P - Pause Printing
Press
P
to Pause Printing. If a job is printing, it
will stop after the current page. If no job is
printing, the printer will not accept any more data
until you press
C
to Continue.
Pause Printing is only available for SuperScript
870 printers that are connected directly to your
computer.
C - Continue Printing
If your printer has already been paused, or if it is
waiting for you to take some action, pressing
C
will continue (restart) the print job.
Continue Printing is only available for
SuperScript 870 printers that are connected
directly to your computer.
R - Resets Printer
Pressing
R
sends a Reset command to the printer,
which clears all data and downloaded fonts from
the printer’s memory.
Reset Printer is only available for SuperScript 870
printers that are connected directly to your
computer.
E - Ejects page
Pressing
E
sends a command to the printer to
eject a page. This is useful, for example, if you do
a print screen from your computer.
X - Exits this menu
Pressing
X
or
^
exits the DOS Status Monitor.
