point
A unit of measurement for sizing type. One
point equals 1/72 inch.
port
A socket on the connector panel of a
computer or peripheral device where you can
plug in a cable to connect to another computer or
device, or to a network.
poster printing
Allows for printing of large
multiple sheet versions of a page.
PostScript
A page description language that
controls the placement of text and graphics on a
page.
printer driver
A software file that translates
printer commands.
print area
The region on a page that can actually
be printed.
Print Manager
An application program that runs
in the background when printing. Once the print
file is sent to the Print Manager, the Print Manager
controls the print queue and then sends the file to
the printer. The user can then perform other tasks
while printing.
print status window
Window that displays any
print job currently under way. When printer
errors occur, the printer status is shown in this
window, which also includes the steps that should
be taken.

built. PrintGear provides unprecedented
performance, quality, network ease of use and
features.
Program Manager
When Windows is started, the
Program Manager is executed and it remains
running while Windows is running. The Program
Manager can store Applications and Files in
groups. To start up an application or open a file,
simply double-click the icon of the desired
application or file displayed in the Program
Manager screen.
RAM
Random-access memory. Memory in which
information can be accessed in an arbitrary
manner. This memory can be written to and read
from.
resident font
A typeface residing in printer ROM.
Also called an internal font.
resolution
The number of dots used to represent
an image–usually measured in dots-per-inch
(dpi). The higher the number of dots, the finer the
resolution. Also see DPI.
ROM
Read only memory. Memory whose
contents can be read but not changed.
