HCT - HDMI Cable Testing
Using the
MU-M4SOL
HDMI Cable Tester
and
Looper
modules, you can test the quality of HDMI
cables before their installation. In order to reduce costs and boost profits, some HDMI cable
suppliers sell cables with missing or shorted wires. These substandard cables are usually
discovered only when trying to stream high resolutions like 4K or run CEC commands. With the
MU-M4SOL
HDMI Cable Testing function, you will identify the problem immediately, and not in a
post-installation service call.
Just insert the HDMI Cable Tester module into the lower slot of the
MU-M4SOL
main unit, attach
one end of the HDMI cable to the module’s HDMI port, a
nd attach the other end of the HDMI cable
to the HDMI port on the Looper module, as shown in the figure below.
Figure 55: HDMI Cable Tester Setup
The
MU-M4SOL
HDMI modules perform physical layer quality tests on each of the ca
ble’s
conductors and the cable shielding, providing instant feedback on missing or defective
wiring:
◼
Checks the presence of each of the 19 HDMI-standard conductors and cable shielding.
◼
Tests the ability of the cable to support an array of HDMI bandwidth requirements, as specified
in the HDMI 1.4, 2.0, 2.1, and future 2.3 standards.
◼
Ensures that none of the cable’s conductors are shorted or missing.
◼
Measures the gauge (AWG) of each of the conductors, detecting resistance imbalances within
the cable that cause degraded transmission quality (planned for a future release).
