11.
Examine the O-ring seals above and below the Sample Cell in the Sample Cell Holder to verify that
they are clean and undamaged. If replacement seals are required, see section 5.4 for replacements.
These are made from a perfluoroelastomer material suitable for use with most liquid media, including
solvents. Consult Microtrac Technical Support for applications of all fluids other than water.
12.
Slide the Sample Cell carefully into its guide grooves. Loosen the Cell Retaining Knob further if
necessary to ease insertion and avoid damage to the O-rings.
13.
Tighten the Cell Retaining Knob finger-tight only; do not use tools.
14.
Fill the system with fluid and check for leaks at the top and bottom of the Sample Cell. A flashlight is
helpful for this step.
15.
If there are no leaks, leave the system filled with clean fluid. Close the sample module door.
Cleaning the Dry Sample Path
All Microtrac dry delivery devices are designed for easy cleaning. Please consult the appropriate manual
for specific cleaning instructions.
The S3500 dry cell tends to be self-cleaning. The actual flow path resists accumulation of sample
materials, although some material may deposit outside the flow path on the nozzle exterior and the inner
cell wall. These deposits should be removed if they accumulate to the point that they might become
dislodged and fall through the laser beam. Removal with a brush, tissue or cloth is preferred. Rinsing the
entire dry cell is permissible, provided it is allowed to dry thoroughly before use. Removal of the dry
delivery cup is recommended to enable the eductor air path to dry thoroughly.
