2.5.4 Dry System Connections
Vacuum
All dry systems use vacuum to draw sample through the analyzer. In most cases the Microtrac-supplied
canister vacuum with HEPA filtration provides vacuum. Plug the vacuum into the outlet on the device
controlling dry delivery marked VACUUM. A centralized vacuum system may also be used. It must meet
the minimum vacuum and flow rate requirements listed in section 1.4. The VACUUM outlet may be used
to power a valve on a central vacuum line instead of a vacuum canister. The VACUUM outlet provides
line voltage at a maximum of 8 amps.
Vibrator
If the system is equipped with a dry vibrator option, connect the cord from the vibrator to the outlet marked
VIBRATOR on the device controlling dry delivery.
The vibrator trough attaches by inserting the trough studs in the clamp attached to the vibrator. The clamp
lever position is adjusted by pulling on the lever to disengage and rotating to the desired position. Move
the levers so they point in the direction shown in Figure 1-1 when tight.
2.6 Linear Dry Feeder Setup
The Linear Dry Feeder contains a tray which holds the sample, and a moving vacuum tube to draw sample
from the tray. The Linear Dry Feeder is generally used for samples ranging from approximately .25 to 500
µm. It is particularly well suited to samples that are prone to agglomeration.
Note: The air regulator and gauge in the Linear Dry Feeder are not used. No pressurized air connections
are made to it. Eductor air and vacuum are connected to the S3500 as described above.
