Microtrac S3500 Particle Size Analyzer Operation and Maintenance

4.
Slide the Sample Cell out of its retaining grooves.
5.
Prepare a lens tissue as follows:
a)
Wrap the lens tissue around a wooden splint or Microtrac cell cleaning paddle. Alternatively, use
a 6” length of pipe cleaner to form a loop by twisting the ends (see section 5.4). The loop should
be wide enough to gently rub the sides of the interior of the sample cell.
b)
Dampen the lens tissue or pipe cleaner with lens cleaning fluid.
6.
Wet the inside of the Sample Cell with the same liquid used to dampen the lens tissue.
7.
Insert the tissue-covered splint or pipe cleaner between the windows of the Sample Cell, and gently
wipe the inside surfaces. Two or three strokes should be sufficient for cleaning. Vigorous cleaning is
not necessary and may scratch the surfaces.
8.
Prepare a clean tissue-covered splint or cotton-tipped swab as in step 6.
9.
The outside surfaces of the sample cell windows rarely require cleaning. Cleaning should be avoided
if possible. Examine the outside of the cell windows, and clean them only if necessary.
10.
Clean both outside surfaces of the Sample Cell windows, using canned compressed air and cotton-
tipped swabs with very gentle pressure. This pre-cleaning is intended to lift any visible dust from the
surface without scratching. Follow this by cleaning per the optical surfaces cleaning procedure.
