2. Installation
2.1 General
Installation of the S3500 analyzer requires connecting the unit to the personal computer and sample
delivery system. These instructions cover the analyzer and an overview of the entire system. Please refer
to the manual associated with your sample delivery device to ensure a proper installation. This section
covers installation of both wet and dry systems. All headings that refer to a delivery method not being
used in your installation may be disregarded.
2.2 Selecting a Location
The working surface on which the system is placed must be level for proper operation. Select a location
with a convenient source of electrical power.
For a system using wet sample delivery, the location requires access to a carrier fluid. This might be a
remote reservoir of organic solvent, a deionized (DI) water system, or a domestic water supply (tap water).
A means for removing the solvent is also needed. This could be a catch tank, a reclamation system or a
drain line leading to a municipal sewer.
CAUTION
An emergency cutoff valve is an essential part of any installation using wet sample delivery. Microtrac
recirculators do not incorporate integral manual cutoff valves due to the wide variety of installation conditions. It
is strongly recommended for installations using a pressurized or gravity-fed fill line that the user provides an
emergency cutoff valve within easy access of the equipment operator.
Systems using dry sample delivery require a source of vacuum. This is typically provided with the system,
but an in-house vacuum source can be used as well. See section 1.4 for minimum performance
requirements of a user-supplied vacuum source.
CAUTION
Any user-provided vacuum system must use static suppression on the motor and hoses.
A source of compressed air is required to operate the eductor. Maximum allowable pressure and minimum
flow rate are listed in section 1.4. It is highly recommended that a moisture/oil trap and filter be used to
provide the highest measurement accuracy and to maintain system reliability.
CAUTION
Do not exceed the maximum eductor air pressure listed in section 1.4.
2.3 Unpacking
Examine and compare the contents with the packing list. Notify the carrier and Microtrac Inc. immediately
if any of the items listed are either missing or damaged.
