•
Never put the machine down while the engine is running unattended.
•
Neither the machine operator nor anyone else should attempt to remove cut material while the
motor is running or the blade is rotating, as this could lead to serious personal injury.
•
Switch off the engine and ensure the blade has come to a stop before removing any material
which has become stuck in the blade’s shaft, otherwise there is a risk of personal injury.
•
The gear drive can become hot during use and remain so for a while. Touching it could lead to burns.
•
Watch out for objects being ejected. Always wear approved safety goggles. Never stretch your
head over the blade guard. Stones, rubbish, etc. can be thrown up towards the eyes and cause
blindness or serious injury.
•
Keep unauthorised people at a distance. Children, animals, onlookers and assistants should keep
at a safe distance of 15 metres. Switch off the machine immediately if someone comes nearer
than this. Never turn around while holding the machine without first checking behind that
no-one has entered the safety distance.
THE MACHINE’S SAFETY EQUIPMENT
WARNING
Never use a machine with safety equipment that is not working. The machine’s safety
equipment must be checked and maintained according to the instructions in this section. If the
machine does not pass one of the checks, a service representative must be contacted and the
machine should be repaired.
Vibration damping system
•
The machine is equipped with a vibration damping system which minimises vibrations and
makes operation easier.
•
Vibrations increase when using an incorrectly wound cord or a blunt or faulty blade (wrong type
or incorrectly sharpened).
•
The machine’s vibration damping system reduces the vibrations carried between the engine
unit/cutting equipment and the machine’s handles.
•
Check regularly that the vibration damping devices have not become cracked or damaged.
•
Check that the vibration damping element is fitted correctly and is not damaged.
The harness quick-release
There is an easily accessible quick-release alongside the suspension ring. This is a safety device to be
used if the engine should begin to catch fire or in other situations where the operator needs to free
themselves from the machine.
Blade guard
•
The blade guard must prevent loose objects being thrown up at the operator. It also protects the
operator from coming into accidental contact with the blade.
•
Check that the guard is not damaged or cracked. Replace the guard if it is damaged.
•
Always use whichever guard is recommended for the blade in question.
