you did on your old device, allowing you to quickly synchronize your existing data with
your new RDA. Just remember to synchronize your old RDA with Palm Desktop before
you synchronize with your new RDA, so you have the latest information. When you
synchronize your new RDA for the first time, select the Desktop Overwrites Handheld
option for all the conduits. For more information, see
"
Customizing HotSync application settings
".
NOTE
If you used security features (for example, password protection) on your previous Meazura™
MEZ1000 RDA, you must upgrade to the most current version of Palm Desktop. The method of
storing passwords has changed with the latest release of Palm Desktop. Therefore, your password-
protected information will not be synchronized if you do not upgrade.
Upgrading your Palm Desktop Software
To upgrade Palm Desktop, follow the steps below:
1.
Synchronize your old RDA with your old Palm Desktop to ensure that the latest
information from your RDA is on your desktop computer.
2.
(Optional) To prevent data loss, go to the folder that stores Palm Desktop (for
example, C:\Program Files\Palm), copy the folder and its contents, rename it (for
example, Palm Backup), and store the copy outside the Palm Desktop folder.
3.
Follow the installation instructions in "
" later in this chapter.
Make sure you install the new software in the same folder as the old software.
4.
To prepare for the first HotSync operation that will synchronize your new RDA with
your new Palm Desktop, go to the HotSync Manager and choose Custom.
NOTE
Select your username, if it does not already appear in the box.
5.
For all conduits, click Change, and select the Desktop overwrites handheld option.
Then click OK. See "
Customizing HotSync application settings
" in Chapter 11 for
more information.
NOTE
For the conduits named, "Install", "Install Service Templates" and "Install To Card", Desktop
overwrites handheld is not an option. These should remain Enabled.
6.
Connect your new RDA with the communications cable or in the cradle and press
the HotSync button. For more information on how to do this refer to your Quick
Start Guide included in your kit. If the Select User dialog box appears on your
desktop computer, select your username.
Maintaining a unique name for each RDA
After you complete the upgrade process described above, you will have two RDA's with the same
name. This is undesirable. Each RDA must have a unique name in order to prevent complications and
unexpected results during HotSync® operations.
We strongly recommend that you perform a hard reset on your old RDA as discussed in the next
section.
