AC POWER

INTRODUCTION
AC power for the Maritimo C47 can be sourced from either the
on-board generator or from shore power mains. The ship can
operate with either 240 volt 50 Hertz or 110/120 volts 60 Hertz
systems, from on-shore power or by using the on-board generator.
The Maritimo C47 is wired for AC power to internationally recognised safety
standards and presents no hazard to human life when operated in the correct
manner. Serious threats exist if any of the wiring is exposed by the removal of
any cover or the opening of any switchboard. Only qualified and experienced
persons should be permitted to work on the AC system.
To minimise shock and fire hazards:
Turn OFF the shore power connection switch before connecting to or
disconnecting from the shore power source.
Connect the shore power cable to the boat before connecting to the shore
power receptacle.
Disconnect the shore power cable at the supply post before disconnecting
from the boat. Do not alter or modify the shore power lead.
There are three sources of AC supply: the ship’s AC generator; either
or both of the ship’s shore supply inlets; and the DC to AC inverter. The
AC power generated from any of these sources is a potential killer. Under
no circumstances should anyone other than qualified electrical persons
work on the wiring systems of this boat, and they should consult with the
factory before commencing any modifications. All work should be noted
in this manual and circuit drawings annotated accordingly. The electrical
system should be inspected annually.
If any work is necessary to the original wiring of this Maritimo C47, it is
strongly advised that contact is first made with the selling dealer who
will assist in the provision of any required information.
The following general warnings should be noted by all persons
using this vessel:
Do not modify the ship’s electrical system. All repair,
maintenance, etc., should only be carried out by a certified marine
electrician. Disconnect all shore power connections when not in use.
Use only double-insulated appliances.
Do not use the vessel if the Reverse Polarity light is illuminated
(see Section 8.9).
Do not allow the electrical lead to hang in the water; dangerous voltage
gradients can develop. This has resulted in at least one death in the US.
