SolsTiS User Manual v10.0
maximum IR spot brightness (the IR viewer will likely saturate)
with up to +/- ¼ turn.
Note!
Use the 2mm Allen key to adjust the POM
mirror with a long lever arm for increased adjustment
sensitivity. DO NOT LEAVE THE ALLEN KEY IN
PLACE after adjustments, as its position may drift.
b.
If SolsTiS laser output is still not observed after +/- ¼ turn of the
POM X mirror, try +/-1/2 turn of the second POM mirror X adjust
c.
If SolsTiS laser output is still not ob/-1/2 turn of the
second POM mirror X adjust, CAREFULLY AND
METHODICALLY try an X,Y ‘raster’ scan of the pump beam. To
perform this raster scan, try +/- ¼ turns of the X and then Y
adjusts of the second POM mirror, one at a time, while looking for
a ‘flash’ of IR laser output observed through the IR viewer or
video camera LCD display.
10.
Once SolsTiS laser output has been observed and pump beam alignment
has been optimised roughly:
a.
Set up a suitabl
e IR power meter at SolsTiS’ output port
b.
Allow at least 5 minutes for the pump laser and SolsTiS output
power to stabilize (and allow a total of 15-30 minutes if you intend
to use the reference cavity supplied with model SolsTiS-SRX).
c.
Record SolsTiS’ output power, as measured by the power meter.
NOTE
– the absolute power output is not relevant at this stage,
and may not match your Final Test Sheet in Appendix C, because
at this stage SolsTiS is likely to be set to some unknown, arbitrary
wavelength until the ICE-BLOC controller has been activated.
d.
Check SolsTiS’ output power is optimised by making small (≤ +/-
¼) turns of the X and Y adjusts of the second POM mirror, one at
a time using the 2mm Allen key and observing SolsTiS’ output
power on the power meter. NOTE
– SolsTiS’ output power is not
sensitive to the Z position of the POM mirrors, and the
POM mirrors should therefore not be adjusted for lateral
translation.
Initialising the SolsTiS Control Unit and UI (Ethernet
connection)
1.
Once pump beam alignment and SolsTiS output power has
been optimised at low pump power, power up the ICE-BLOC
control unit by pressing the
On
button on the front of the unit.
NOTE
– as the unit is switched on, watch the power meter to
see if a significant (>5%) change in output power occurs. If this
occurs, this indicates that powering up the control unit and
activating the intracavity actuators has likely caused a change
in SolsTiS wavelength.
a.
Check the control module POWER light is on (green
LED)
b.
Check the control module LAN light comes on (green
LED; comes on after several seconds delay, regardless
of whether an Ethernet connection has been made to
the unit or)
2.
Power up the control PC and connect it via the supplied 2m
Ethernet cable to the RJ45 jack on the SolsTiS ICE-BLOC
control module
3.
Open up the Web browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer is
recommended)
a.
NOTE
– the ‘tap’ function on the touchpad of the control
PCs supplied by M Squared Lasers have typically been
deactivated
b.
The Web browser should initialise at the SolsTiS UI
HOME page. If not:
i.
Select the HOME page from the Web browser
‘Favourites’
ii.
Or, type in the IP address written on the back of
the SolsTiS control module
c.
NOTE
– the SolsTiS UI stores the last used settings
