3.2. AOM operation overview
SR AOM lasers contain an internal Acousto-Optic Modulator (AOM) fitted between the laser resonator
and the output window. The laser resonator runs continuously under closed-loop control and the output
passes into the AOM which diverts the beam into a beam dump. When an AOM demand pulse is
applied, the AOM rapidly switches the beam from the dump to the output aperture. This results in a
significantly shortened rise and fall time for each laser pulse.
3.3. General considerations before starting the laser
• Ensure that the beam path is free from obstructions.
• If the machine is in a maintenance or installation situation with machine guards removed, check that
there are no personnel within the area and that safety warning notices are prominently displayed.
• Ensure all interlocks are operating correctly.
• Verify that the material to be processed is suitable for CO
2
laser processing.
• Verify that the material to be processed is correctly positioned and ready for processing.
3.4. Start-up
1.
Ensure that all machine safety features are present and activated.
If the machine is in maintenance mode with enclosure panels removed, ensure that the area
surrounding the machine complies with local laser safety regulations and that laser safety warning
notices are displayed prominently. All persons in the area must wear laser protection eyewear.
DANGER
Risk of injury to eyes and exposed skin
This is a Class 4 (Class IV) laser product. All precautions relevant to this class of laser product
should be strictly observed. Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures
other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure. Strict
compliance with the safety precautions set out and referred to in this manual and extreme
care in use are essential to minimise the chance of accidental damage to the equipment or
personal injury. Luxinar does not accept liability for any damage or injury howsoever caused
or arising.
2.
Turn on the coolant circulating system and check for correct flow and temperature.
3.
Turn on the optics purge gas.
