B-STDX, CBX, and GX Network Management Station Installation Guide

Sybase Prerequisite Tasks

Setting Up the System

4.

At the

Enter the Database Server Name

prompt, do one of the following:

Press Return to accept the default of

<your system’s hostname>

.

Enter

<

database server name

>

.

5.

At the

Enter the name for the error log

 prompt, press Return to accept

the default (

<database server name>

_

err.log

).

6.

At the

Enter the Database SA Password

 prompt, enter:

<

Your database SA password

>

When prompted, re-enter the password.

The following message appears:

Creating /etc/rc2.d/S97sybase..Done.

Creating /etc/rc0.d/K01sybase..Done.

Creating /etc/rc2.d/S98sybase..Done.

The script creates the three listed files that activate and deactivate the Sybase
12.5.0.1 Server and the backup server. The script uses these files later in the
installation to shut down and start up the Sybase Server. The following message
appears:

You must add at least one more user account.

Enter name of the user [default: nms] ?

7.

Press Return to accept the default (nms).

!

Caution –

In

step 4

,

do not

enter CASCADE for your database server name (it is a

reserved Sybase word); the installation fails if you use it. By default, the script uses
the system hostname. If the hostname contains a hyphen (-), you must not use the
hyphen because the installation fails.

Note  –

In

step 6

, choose a secure password that you can remember (for example,

superbase

). The password must be at least six characters in length. If you enter a

password with fewer characters, you will be unable to initiate an

isql

 session after

completing the installation.

Do not

enter CASCADE for the Database SA Password (it

is a reserved Sybase word).
