Replacing the system board
CAUTION:
The heat sink and microprocessor might be very hot. Turn off the computer and
wait three to five minutes to let the computer cool before opening the computer
cover.
This section provides instructions on how to remove and install the system board.
To replace the system board:
1.
Open the cover. See “Opening the cover” on page 94.
2.
Lay the computer on its side for easier access to the system board.
3.
Remove any adapter cards installed in the PCI connectors. See “Replacing an
adapter card” on page 103.
4.
Remove the hard disk drive fan. See “Replacing a fan assembly” on page 119.
5.
Note the location of all cable connections on the system board and disconnect
all cables. See “System board connectors and components” on page 93.
6.
Remove the nine screws that secure the system board to the chassis, following
the sequence shown in the figure:
7.
Lift the system board out of the chassis.
8.
Remove the memory modules from the failing system board.
9.
Remove the heat sink from the failing system board. See “Replacing the heat
sink” on page 105.
